| Can this year hold anymore awful surprises? Amy and I just learned two days ago that our little boy, Kip, is moving to Las Vegas with his girlfriend. And moving this weekend! We are in shock. She's very sad. I'm very depressed. Emily, his girlfriend, graduated from the college of education at OSU this summer and applied for many jobs. The only job that got back to her was the one in Las Vegas. The one that they really didn't want to get an offer from. But when it's almost time for school to start and you don't see any other job offers coming, well, you gotta go. She badly wanted to get some teaching experience under her belt so she could apply for jobs where she'd really like to live. Uh, like back here. Kip agreed to go with her if she promised to come back within three years.
She'll be teaching 3 classes of math to 8th graders and 2 classes of English to 7th graders of whom English is not their first language. I am having a hard time picturing what it would be like to live in Las Vegas. Las Vegas, a city I NEVER ever wanted to go visit. Amy had to make a 'bucket list' last year, for some reason, and on it she had actually written, "To NOT go to Las Vegas." I don't like to fly anyway and a three day car trip is not my forte anymore so Kippy and Emily, we'll just have to see you at Christmas. They say they are coming back this Christmas. I say it's a looooong drive and it's also costly air fare, so we'll see. All of us are making the trek up to Columbus tomorrow to help them finish up with packing and loading the truck. Good thing Kip has had several years of experience driving a UPS truck or I'd be a lot more scared about him driving a rented moving truck all that distance. I'm a little scared as it is. But I am a bit excited for him, too, to branch out like this, to get out of his rut if he felt like he was in one. I have given him the experience of moving cross-country three times (Ohio to Tennessee, Tennessee to Florida, Florida to Canada) so he's not unfamiliar with the experience. But this one is on his own with his girlfriend. So, let's flood this page with beauty. With beautiful nature pictures taken from around our yard. All I can picture is desert, desert, desert in my head right now and flashing neon lights. I need to replace it with the beauty of an Ohio yard.
Speaking of nature, and as much as I love it, there is nothing more annoying than a cricket that decides to chirp outside your wall at night, or maybe it's in the basement and I'm hearing the sound coming up through the cold air vent. I dunno, but it has been keeping me awake for two nights now. If it would just do a continuous stream of vibration I could sleep through it but, noooo, it's gotta rub, rub, rub and then stop. Rub, rub, rub, rub, rub, rub, rub, rub...and then stop. And on and on and on all night. Sigh. I put my TV headphones on without turning the TV on and that helped muffle it some. |
