Birthday Chronicles
December 11, 2005
You know it's my birthday, ta da da dant, you know it's my birthday, ta da da dant... Chronicles of a 58-year-old's birthday. Oh, boy, is this going to be boring, ha, ha.

Best picture of the day. Right here. Not taken today but a couple of weeks ago when we had our first real snow. We've got snow out there right now, too. We had a good storm on Thursday evening. Mother Nature dumped four inches of the stuff. That's enough to shut the schools down around here. Here it is Sunday and the snow is still out there just as thick because the temperatures have been at freezing and below since then. This isn't like Ohio. I keep thinking I'm back in Canada!

PerchedSo, if I'm calling this a chronicle I guess I better get chronicling. 8:30 a.m. - got up. 10:00 a.m. - made blueberry pancakes and sausage for breakfast, lots of yummy coffee along with it. In between waking up and making breakfast I was at the computer reading e-mail. I got several birthday wishes from the people in the Sims' group that I belong to and three personalized e-cards from Lizzy, Melynda and my daughter. Since breakfast, I've been right here reading more e-mail and writing HTML. Plans for the afternoon, more computer stuff, then watching something on TV that I've either taped from the TV or watching an old tape of family movies that I want to dub to a DVD. Birthday cake is made but not iced. The Muckheads went off to the UU church (Unitarian Universalists). I've been thinking about icing it myself before they get back. They have requested that the birthday celebration be before 3:00 so that Addy can have some cake and not be too wound up for the evening. Request has been approved.

Am sitting here with the window open and sealed up as best as it can be sealed so that the cat can be ensconced comfortably if not a little coldly in the catquarium. The little draft I'm feeling is better than having Dusky's smelly tail stuck in my face and blocking my computer screen. Well, it's not smelly all the time but those times it is...phew!!!

So far, the only plans that I know we have for the evening are going to an Italian restaurant called Bravo! Bill's boss gave him a gift certificate a month ago to thank him for all his work and efforts on the job. We actually should have used that for his birthday but on his birthday we used a gift certificate for the Texas Roadhouse that Bill got from the neighbor's for chopping up a tree that fell during a windy thunderstorm during the summer. The neighbors all know now that we, or rather really I, are/am in the market for all the deadwood that falls from their trees. I'm a great firewood hoarder from way back. What's funny now is that several people have now coveted my firewood for their own backyard fire pits. Okay, now I remember why we went to the Roadhouse at that time. It was because his birthday was on a Thursday and the Roadhouse was closer instead of having to drive all the way over to West Chester so late. He had worked till 7:30 that night. Now with my birthday being on Sunday we have more leisurely time to make the drive and get there earlier. I mention this because, well, I'm trying to fill space, heh, heh, but also because the Roadhouse is not his favorite place so that's why it should have been my birthday treat and not his. But, oh, well, too late now. We will enjoy it today.

Painting by Mary G.It's always nice to have surprises. The surprise for the day was Amy and my friend Mary conspired for her to come to the house at 3:00. Mary had told me at the drum circle that she had made something for me. I thought she was going to give it to Bill on Monday. But, no, here she arrived at 3:00 as a surprise for me. That was fun. What she made was adorable. She's an artist and what she had made was a painting of two of our cats--Dusky and Butterball--drawn from two pictures that I had on my journal. The two pictures were featured in the journal entry "Oh, the Life" about Bill making a cataquarium for the window beside me. She drew them freehand into a picture of them together. That was very sweet of her. You can see the results right here. Thank you, Mary! That was a very special surprise.
