The Ohio State University (where I used to work) sits in the middle of Columbus, Ohio. Whenever Autumn comes back to this capital city, football fever strikes. Columbus is proud to back the Ohio State Buckeyes and their try every year to make it to the Rose Bowl--the most coveted bowl of the Big Ten. Coach John Cooper last took his team to the Rose Bowl on January 1, 1997. For up-to-date info on the Buckeyes games, times, and broadcasts, the Columbus Dispatch is a good resource when football is in season. Otherwise, the Dispatch, Columbus's main newspaper, is a good place to start to get to know this large yet small city affectionately known (well, for some) as "Cowtown."
Little known facts (or maybe not) about Columbus--
Dave Thomas, founder of Wendy's, started his franchise in Columbus.
Jack Hanna, widely known for his show "Animal Adventures" and for regularly bringing animals to David Letterman's Late Night Show, is Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo.
Columbus is proud to host the longest and biggest fair in the U.S.
The square-shaped hamburger fast food chain, White Castle, began here.
