For one like me whose back is hunched! And so with pillows softly bunched |
Around my body, I look out across the lake, and think about |
The painted turtles and the frogs that sit and sun themselves on logs. |
A heron stares into the bottom, catching minnows, croaking, "Got 'em!" |
Turkey vultures surf the thermals. Robins pause to peck at wormholes. |
Muskrats ramble through the weeds: waterlilies meet their needs. |
Every creature has its place. Nature moves with measured pace. |
Then someone comes and though they hug, I end up downcast on the rug. |
Forgetting that I have my place, they sometimes leave me on my face. |
I cannot move so well as they, nor can I find the words to say, |
"Don't leave me in this helpless mess! I can't survive with all this stress!" |
I wonder. Can it be a fact that I'm a bear that makes them act |
So thoughtlessly in forcing me to be where I don't want to be? |
