It's amazing how in just a couple of days how the leaves spring out on a tree. Oh, yeh, that's why they call it Spring. Foliage and greenery is springing out all over. One day it's not there, the next it is. I noticed today that now I can't see the road in front of the backyard neighbor's house anymore. The tallest trees don't have leaves yet just buds but when you look down at ground and middle level it is a lush panaroma of green. So quickly, it seems. As I drove to the "Y" today, I noticed the green spreading more upwards in all the trees along the way. The canopy over the roads from the trees on the boulevards is starting to fill out again. The grass is healthy, the fringe trees are pretty much bloomed out, though their white flowers haven't appeared yet, white butterflies are flitting over the yard. The daffodils have shed their colors and all that's left are their green spiky stems. But the tulips have picked up the pace and are showing more brilliance with their reds and purples and pinks. Dandelions are populous in the yards that don't spray chemicals--meaning ours. Deck sitting and bbqing are in full swing for us. We've done bbq chicken, bbq pork chops, hamburgers and hot dogs already.
Woody, the woodpile chipmunk, showed up under the bird feeders yesterday. He was having a jolly ole time stuffing his cheeks full of dropped seeds. I kept worrying that the black cat would creep up on him and snatch him but not that day, thankfully. Weeds are taking over the garden already. The chives have sprung up from last year and the lilies and hostas, too. Green stems only yet. The robins seemed to have sorted out some tree issues. There's not nearly the evening fighting that there was. Ah, soon there will be fireflies lighting up the trees like sparkling Christmas lights. Soon Bill will be hauling out the swimming pool and erecting it. Soon the heat will be upon us and we'll have to shut the windows again and turn on the air conditioner. I'll be putting that off for as long as I can. The furnace is off, the windows are open, the eating tent has been put back up on the deck, the umbrella has taken its place in its holder to shade the swing, the carpenter bee is back hovering over the deck and giving us the eye when we come out, Bill's drinking beer again, I have shed my long sleeves and long pants, and the lawn has been mowed several times. There's no turning back now. Take that winter! |
