So, the move is going well. Bill and I moved our belongings in last weekend. It was a long three days and there is still some stuff back at the old house. Mostly, the Muckheads's leftovers in the basement and more things in the garage. The yard still needs a good going over and the cat enclosure must come down. Our cats will have to wait for a little while to be able to enjoy the outdoors again. Once Bill has some time after he's gotten the basics fixed up around here, he'll work on another outdoor enclosure for them. I have the window open here in the computer room since it has become a great spring day and all three cats were perched at the window, one on the sill, one on my computer, and the other on the top of the computer desk shelf. I was surprised that there wasn't any scuffling going on for the prized position on the sill.
We brought the three cats over two nights ago. They pretty much disappeared for several hours while they explored everything. Now they look to be pretty well adjusted except when they see someone walking down the street. Everyone around here is a complete stranger to them so they growl at the sight of anyone. Ah, yes, there is danger lurking in every corner, my dears.
Minnie has been declared free of the ear mites so she'll be able to join the household soon. We let our original three come over here first so that they could get acclimated to the place before we let Minnie in with them because Minnie will do her best to terrorize them. Hope they've all scoped out some good hiding places. We are so hoping that Minnie will calm down and learn that these three cats are good guys and know how to live with each other. If she can't adjust and leave them alone, then, unfortunately, I am going to have to scour around for a good home for her or a no kill cat shelter. I love Kaboodle and Dusky too much to have them feel like wanted criminals in their own home.
Though this entry is dated April 7, it won't be uploaded for a few days. For some reason, it takes those jokers with the DSL a week to get it turned on. They installed the service April 3 but it won't be turned on until the 10th. You wouldn't think it would take that long, would you? Well, it would have been on the 9th but it is a holiday for them, Good Friday. Besides, we don't have but one phone line in the house and it is in the basement. Go figure that one out! If we would have let Cincinnati Bell put the lines in it would have cost $70 for each one so Todd is doing it. He finally managed to get one line going up to their computers. That was a priority since Amy was in desperate need of a connection so she could do her long distance computer class.
It's been strange not having the Internet to turn to every day and I'm wondering if people think I've disappeared off the planet. I also hope that my mailbox isn't filling up and mail is being rejected since I haven't been able to log on for four days now. I set my computer up two days ago. The room felt dead without it going. No Internet but at least I can amuse myself with the games I have on my computer when I get tired of unpacking. Guess I'm tired of my games, hence the reason I'm writing this page right now.
I've started my new backyard bird list. There's been pretty much the standard yard birds but I scored a ruby-crowned kinglet earlier this morning. It was a female. I've got the RCK on my life list already so it wasn't a firstie for me. But it was nice to see one again. It had been awhile since I last saw one. For anyone interested, here is my list so far (figured I better get them down before I lose the piece of paper they're written on). Here's the list in order of appearance: Great blue heron flying over, robin, mourning dove, house sparrow, cardinal, downy woodpecker, white-throated sparrow, 2 unidentified ducks flying over, heard a Carolina wren, ruby-crowned kinglet, bluejay, heard 2 flickers competing for territory, starling, grackle, chickadee, and American crow. I'm hearing two other birds out there whose calls I'm not familiar with.
Well, guess that's all the news from the new ranch. Talk to ya again soon.
