This & That
December 8, 2003

I haven't written anything for December yet so I thought I better get on the stick and write something before Eva gives up on me. Hee, hee, hi, Eva!

Hmmm, let's see. What project has Bill been up to lately? Again, it involves a cat. He's been going around here lamenting the fact that our outdoor cat, Minnie, is getting cold at night and since we're not letting her in (well, he would let her in but I have resisted because he is already sitting here being congested from the three cats that are already in the house) he kept going around saying, "Oh, poor da Minnie." Every day it became a litany for him. That and, "Well, what are we going to about her staying warm at night since we're not letting her in?"

Minnie's New HouseSo, he finally came up with a solution. Witness here, the newest in cat hotelery. I think the neatest thing about this is that Minnie can lie in there, look out, and see pretty clearly what's moving around the yard. So if anything intimidating comes along she can move out quickly if she needs to. Like the big Siamese cat that is eating up the food I put out for her. When he comes on the porch while she's eating, she moves over for him and has to wait till he's finished. There is one other cat that comes around, too, and she doesn't like him either. And you can add Dusky, Kaboodle, or Butterball to her Hate List, too. Whenever our cats try to go out in the cat enclosure in the back yard and Minnie is out there, she charges at them and scares them back in the house. Except Butterball. Butterball stands up to her and refuses to be scared back inside.

This cat hotel comes with its own electric heat (a heating pad) and a comfy blanket that sits on top of the heating pad. She's really been digging it.

Everyone else in the house seems to have a low-grade cold going on except for me. I got a flu shot this year (at the insistence of my doctor). Maybe that helped my resistance to getting this cold along with all of them. Hope so.

Addy at 2 months and 1 weekBaby pictures. Gee, we haven't had a baby picture to look at lately, have we? This journal isn't going to become a glorified Grandma's Brag Book. Hmmmm, on second thought. Why Not?! No, really I'll spare you except for the occasional picture. Like this one. Baby Addy enjoying a leisurely relax session in the bouncy seat. She's gaining strength in her neck and holding onto rattles for longer periods of time. She is also the princess of magical smiles when she locks onto your face. She tries to talk with you with her little coos and gurgles. Her face looks so intent when she's trying to communicate. It's very cute. She's been a very calm and happy baby in general.

Can you believe that Christmas is about two weeks away? I can't. I'm not in a Christmas mood at all. Don't feel like shopping for ANYTHING this year. It's a rather strange feeling but we all have been focused on the baby so much that there's not much room for anything else. It's not a bad tradeoff, I think. My birthday is coming up in three days. So, there's that to look forward to. Bill and I went to the German Village Christmas Walk in downtown Hamilton. There weren't very many people there but that made it nice for us two old people who don't like crowds. A dozen or more old Victorian-style houses were open for browsing through. We went into the Lane Hooven house. Lane is the man that built the Lane Library here. His house was rather awesome. Very grand and with a tall wooden spiral staircase in the center of the house. Made us wonder how the heck they got furniture up to the second story. Two upstairs bedrooms had gabled roofs that gave one a rather odd feeling to be in.

Other than that, there doesn't seem to be much else going on except the same ole, same ole.
