| Sometimes, I think the hardest part about Christmas is deciding upon the menus. Usually I succumb to turkey since it's cheaper but this year I got ham. Sure wanted one of them spiral hams but they were twice as much as the cost of a regular ham. So regular ham I got.
But then there's Christmas Eve, then New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day. Oh, and Christmas morning. There's something about the holidays that brings out the tastebuds. You want SOMETHING special for all the meals. Lunch? Ever notice how lunch is rather forgotten. It's in there somewhere between the special Christmas breakfast and the special Christmas dinner. Or do most people make it a Christmas brunch kind of thing and then try to wait their stomach out until the Christmas dinner is ready? For me, it's always been the Christmas waffles for breakfast. Ever since on ole boss lady of mine at OSU gave me a waffle maker for Christmas. Boy, was that one a surprise. I didn't remember ever telling her how I missed having waffles for breakfast but I must have because she sprang that one on me. She had mostly her bad points but there were one or two good points that came out at times like that. She could surprise you. So, waffles it will be again this year. Kippy will like that. He can't have waffles unless he comes down here. Mmmm, and I've got strawberries frozen from the springtime in my freezer. I'm thinking of doing appetizers for New Year's Eve. Make enough of them and a variety so that the munching can begin when the Muckheads get here and continue on until When. Mimosas sound good for breakfast the next morning. I love champagne. Seems I can drink champagne and don't feel the effects of it like I do regular wine or a bottle of beer. I don't particularly like the taste of beer. For some reason, every evening when Bill has a beer to calm the day down, he hands me the last big swallow in the bottle. And, it's funny, but every time he offers it, I have to accept. If it's offered, I want it. If it's not offered, I don't want it. I'm like that with his ice cream bars, too. He always offers me the first bite, and I always can't refuse it. Somedays when I just do not want anything else to eat for the day and he brings his ice cream bar in I'll tell him, "No, don't show it to me. I'll have to have it if you do." So, he doesn't and I do just fine. What a balmy day this turned out to be. Near 60. Strange to be hanging out sheets to dry in the middle of December, but that's just what I did. They will smell sooooooo yummy when I get them out of the closet to use next time. There's nothing quite like that fresh air smell on the clothes in the dead of winter. I managed to get one project done today and shipped off. Finally, I taped Grant and Carrie's wedding onto a VCR tape for them. I thought it would be much fun for them to get it for a Christmas present. So, I got it wrapped up and sent on its way today. I don't think they check in here and read often so it's safe to say that they won't find out about it before they get it. No pictures today. Sorry. |
