Big Changes Happening at the Lodge
January 26, 2003

Looks like things are going to change a bit around here in two months. Amy and her husband are going to move in. It's so that they can afford to keep going to college for the next two years. Amy will be getting her 1st year degree at the end of March. I'm not sure where Todd stands. He had almost two years completed at the College of Art and Design in Columbus before he finally decided that that wasn't the field he really wanted to be in. He's taking computer programming stuff now.

Kip does not want to leave Columbus again. After his move to Florida with Amy and Todd, he realized that he liked Columbus the most. Plus he missed his friends. It looks like he'll be moving in with Solomon, again, a long time friend of everyone. Kip figures he's got enough money to cover his expenses. He'll be continuing with his college studies and working. He's only got two more quarters after this one before he gets his first degree.

We'll have Butterball in our household once they move in. Butterball is Kaboodle's son. He's a Sweetie!(tm). He's not been outside since he was five weeks old, after we found him and his siblings with Kaboodle in the bushes. Well, except for one time when he got out of Amy's apartment and they had to chase him down, so he'll really enjoy the cat enclosure once he gets over his awe of it.

This whole deal will be a big change. I've finally gotten used to the empty nest. I like my space. I like my alone time. I like my rut. I like having them come to visit and then leaving. Like when you have grandchildren and you're able to give them back when you're tired of them. But on the other hand, I think it will be exciting. It will be very interesting to see how much the living together interaction will have changed since the last time Amy lived with Bill and me after we got married. It should be a lot different because Bill is now used to me and my kid's ways. And he understands the workings of a daughter a bit better. He also gets along very well with Todd. And Todd with him. If anyone should have been father and son, it should have been Bill and Todd. They have a lot of similar traits.

I'll also have two someones to do the things with that Bill doesn't like to do. Like go to a movie, play games, and with Amy, girlie stuff. Well, Todd can do the girlie stuff, too, if he wants. He cooks. He sews. He cleans. He runs errands and with little complaint.

So, I do have mixed feelings but I'm on the far right hand of the YES scale when it comes to doing this.

On another topic, I made the mistake of going to the grocery store about 3:30 this afternoon. I had forgotten it was Super Bowl Fever Day. The store was packed. It was tiring having to watch out for all the people in the aisles and maneuvering around them all. But one noticeable thing about about going to the store on the weekend was the absence of all the older people. I didn't have one rude encounter with anyone.

It snowed three inches till early afternoon and then the day turned bright and sunny. Two bright notes to end this on.
