Summer Cleaning
July 20, 2008
I was out all afternoon yesterday from 12:30 till 6:30. First, I was helping Bill clean out the garage. My sciatic nerve was hurtin' like a bitch so I sat in my wheelchair and did all the sorting out. He did all the running around. We work well like a team like that. It was supposed to be hot and muggy, and it was, but we survived by setting up a fan down there. He put all The Muckheads not-yet-moved-out-stuff out on a table so he could have swing space. He said he was going to move it all back in. I thought he was crazy but he's nice like that. The neat thing about it all is that Amy came over and she was able to take half the stuff home after our swim. The other half of their stuff is still sitting on the table but covered with a tarp so the rain won't get to it. It's nice and sunny right now but it's supposed to get rainy in a few hours.

The second part of the reason I was out all day was because Amy, the girls, and I went swimming. Ohmybritches, the water was amazing. It held at 92.5 Farenheit the whole time. Lounge water, was what it was. We had a most enjoyable float in there. Bill put the umbrella into the pool for us so part of the water could be shaded. Addilyn stayed occupied for a long time perfecting how to do an underwater handstand. I've been teaching her log rolls and somersaults, too, and the dead man's float. She's also into diving to fetch things. Her mom bought her a pair of goggles so she can see under the water better. It's the best thing she ever got because it keeps her entertained much more than the alligator float I got for her. The best pool toy we ever got was this shark that you toss in the water, it sinks or swerves, and then comes up slowly just like a real shark. We are endlessly entertained by it. A couple of years ago, Kip found the dolphin that matches it. It has a different way of diving and rising that looks a lot like how a dolphin moves. If you want to see what I'm talking about, follow this link here and look for the Dive N Rise toys. I found a whale that we don't have so I'm thinking of getting it. Elyse seems to have settled down some from her frenzied jumping off the ladder. We didn't put it out in the middle of the pool this time so maybe that helped. She spent a lot of the time holding onto the umbrella.

Now today is pie baking day. I am entering an apple pie in the Butler County fair Tuesday. Trouble is, there are no Jonagold apples in the grocery stores yet and those are the best ones to use for the tastiest apple pie, I'm convinced. So, I am resigned to doing some taste testing between Golden Delicious, Idared, Gala, and McIntosh, sigh. I made one pie yesterday combining the Golden Delicious and the Idared. The GD apples stayed firmer than the Ida's. The Ida's don't seem too tasty. So, today, I have made one pie just of GD's. And another pie just of Ida's. Yesterday it was a regular Crisco shortening crust. Today it is butter Crisco shortening crust. The two pies are done but are too hot to eat yet. I need to go to the store and get the McIntosh and Gala. Although I just might go with only the McIntosh. I ought to try lard, too, but I'm not sure if I want to do all that more testing. Hopefully, after Tuesday I'll be able to show you some great pictures of my pie with a blue ribbon on it, :-).

I'm finally getting another picture of the fawns up here. I've only been taking the pictures through the screen of my window by the computer. I did try from the deck but the deer sauntered towards the back of the yard when we appeared on the deck and the trees hid them. So, I know this isn't the best of pictures but I have to go with what I was able to get. Bill calls her Deirdre and the Fonz.

Notice the one lily in the picture above. Well, here are all of them. They grew to great heights this year. Amy is going to spirit them away for her yard. That's okay. She did buy them and plant them and they are her favorite so I don't mind if she reclaims therm.
