| So, it's Turkey Day. All those poor liddle turkeys are sitting in millions of ovens across the U.S. right about now. Me? I've got two pumpkin pies in the oven and am about to take them out and put in an apple pie. Then I'll make a pumpkin roll that looked delish in the "Taste Of Home" cooking magazine that I got. I announced to Bill that it was Pie Day today and he said, "No, it's not, that's tomorrow." Took a moment for my brain to click and realize what he meant and then we were onto a pun war. This one was to see who could come up with new names for the rest of the days of the week. We clevered our way into this list: Sundaeday, Munchday, Chewsday, Wingsday, Thirstday, Pieday, Platterday. I think I thought of most of them. Bill was more busy laughing about it then thinking about it. Ah, the silly brain of a Canadian.
I'm off the hook for a big dinner today. Tomorrow will be our feast day. Amy, Todd and Addy went north to have Turkey Day with Todd's relatives. They are bringing back my favorite youngest son with them when they come home tonight. The menu plans for our meal tomorrow have been made and the fixin' stage is just minutes away. I'm going to get crockpot made stuffing going after I make the pumpkin roll. The only other plan for the day is to get outside and straighten out the firewood. Well, after Bill paints the wall in the hallway. Yeh, he's feeling ambitious. Ooops, I heard the timer go off. Guess I better get up there and take the pies out because poor Bill doesn't know how to test them for doneness. Back again. Had enough pie dough to make another apple pie but not enough for a top crust. So, I'm here looking for a Dutch apple pie recipe. Bill has the hall wall nearly done. He's decided that he's going to paint the rest of the house one wall at a time as the mood strikes him. I think that's a pretty good idea. My friend Kate in Rochester has been at the computer off and on. She keep trying to Google Talk me. She sends an query to see if I'm here and I'm not. Then I get back on an hour later and tell her that I'm here now but there's no response from her. I come back later and she says, "Was here...tag you're it." She's got twenty-five people coming at 5:00. What a funny day this has turned out to be. Dag, there goes the timer again and I haven't even found my recipe yet. So, it's later yet now. Progress report. Both apple pies are done, and cornbread baked and broken up in big bowl. First set of dirty dishes have been washed and countertops fairly cleaned off. Bill and I had heated up leftovers for dinner (beef stew from Tuesday night for Bill and chicken pot pie from Wednesday night for me; apple pie for dessert is forthcoming). Am back at computer and losing steam. I've got some yeast rolls that are have risen high enough to be baked so guess I'll have to do that. If I let them rise till morning they will be disasterous. But that will be the last of the baking for today. There will be no pumpkin roll baked today. I'll probably be in the mood to make one on Saturday. I talked to Lee, my second son who lives in Tennessee, and he said he's been making pumpkin rolls lately. That was a nice coincidence. Like I said, I'm losing steam and it looks like we are settled in at our computers for the rest of the night. So looks like the crockpot stuffing won't get made till tomorrow. Now just waiting for The Muckheads to come back home. It will be good to see Kippy's face again. We never did get outside to chop firewood. Would have been a great evening to do it but Bill lost his steam, too. We did sit on the porch like old times because it warmed up to 60 degrees F today. Felt great! He went around after dinner using his newfangled cleaning tool, a Magic Eraser, to remove spots and stains on the other walls. It does work like magic. It just got too late and too cold out to start an ambitious project like firewood stacking. Guess that's Turkey Day for us this year. Does seem strange not to have the aroma of turkey lingering in the air but we'll get that tomorrow. No special pictures to put up so I'll put up a current picture of me. Don't get scared now. ![]() |
