What Cats Do When I'm Gone
September 2-A, 2003
Found out that Amy was playing with my camera while I was in the hospital. The telltale remnants of that were evidenced on the tape. She wanted me to see how much my cats were missing me. Like...they weren't...

Kaboodle and Dusky spent most of their time ensconced on Amy and Todd's bed amidst the fluffy covers. Boy, you can tell that they sure missed me, can't you? Right? Dusky here was busy cleaning himself when Amy came in to take his picture. Kaboodle barely moved a muscle.

Hmmm, and where was Butterball, the rightful owner of this bedroom? Out in the living room in the rocking chair. Admittedly, he does like sleeping in that rocking chair a lot anyway.Outcast

And now, we have another cat on the premises. Outside that is but not in the house, although Bill took pity on her and let her onto the breezeway this morning after she suffered through the downpour all night and morning. This is Millie, or Minnie. Can't get it quite right what her actual name is. She's not clear on it herself. It might be Minnie Millie. She crawled under my car the Friday before I went into the hospital. I noticed her and also noticed that she had a floppy ear. Being attracted to stray animals, I went outside and called to her. It didn't take her but thirty seconds to decide to come to me. I wasn't sure what was going on with her ear. It was all bloated and flopped over. It didn't feel hot but I wasn't sure if it was infected or not. I got some cat food and water and set it outside then went in to call the vet. I was able to get an appointment with the vet within the hour.Minnie, or Millie

Her bloated ear turned out to be a hematoma. Blood had somehow pooled inside her ear, probably got nicked while she was scratching at it because of the profusion of mites in her ear. It would cost $150 to have the ear pierced, blood expunged, and sewn back up again. I didn't get it done since it wasn't a life threatening situation but I did get her treated for the ear mites. Brought her home again and have been feeding her ever since. Bill keeps saying that we might as well let her inside and teach her how to use the Litter Robot in the basement. Come on, Bill, let's not push it. And you are the guy with the cat allergy.

She's really sweet and rubbable. She loves being petted and loves rubbing your legs. Doesn't like being picked up all that much. She's got beautiful light yellow eyes. Sigh. I'm trying not to let her get accepted into the house but I don't know. The rest of the gang keeps saying, "Yeh, just wait till the first really cold day of winter..."

Hmmm, I know they are right. And, after all, she is a perfect complement in colors to the rest of the cat crew.
