Ode to Add__

Say "Hello" to Daddy, Addy.
So, you're a lassie, not a laddie.
The Foxes hedged, bought pink AND blue,
Though ultrasound showed which was you.

Now, will that be "ie" or "y",
When spelling what they've called you by?

So welcome, Addie, to the show
From Gampa Bill and Gamma Jo.
Officially, JoGrammatee --
But Hudgie's good enough for me.
If we use "i.e." in our name
We all could be somewhat the same.

So welcome, Addy, Amy's child
And Toddybear's, now, ain't that wild?
What's in a name, as Shakespeare said,
He was too "y"s for my old head.

You're too young now, so let it ride
But when you're 18, you decide:
For at that age, you will be able
To tell the world to call you "Mabel".

At home await some special toys
Appreciable by girls or boys:
A Mozart-Bach-Beethovemobile
To spin above and make you squeal;
A goose that plays a tape cassette.
You're networked to the internet.
A monitor that tattletales
In case your respiration fails.

And, right beside your parents' bed,
A bassinette to lay your head
So you'll sleep safely through the night
From dusk to early morning light,
(Except for Thursday nights, you'll find
"Survivor"'s on, bear that in mind.)

Speaking of Dusky, he'll be there,
So will Pendleton, the bear.
Kaboodle will be in your face,
And Butterball will crowd your space.
You could be hard to find, you know,
With all that feline furbelow.

An Anthem chorus waits to see
The latest in the family.
Old Short North pals will want to choose
Some kid-appropriate tattoos.

We're pullin' fer ya, Addilyn.
We're in the same boat, paddilyn'.
